REP. YADIRA CARAVEO AND SENATOR BENNET BRING TOGETHER BOTH PARTIES TO STAND UP FOR HISPANIC RESTAURANT OWNERS

WASHINGTON, DC — Congresswoman Yadira Caraveo, M.D. (CO-08), the first Latina to represent Colorado, and Senator Michael Bennet, (D-CO) today announced a bipartisan effort standing up for hispanic entrepreneurs. The Hispanic Restaurant Week Resolution celebrates the contributions of Hispanic restaurant owners and employees from September 22nd through October 3rd.

“The Hispanic community enriches the culture, heritage and history of Colorado. The many Hispanic-owned restaurants in our community are a result of their hard work and conviction to build a better future for themselves and their families. Today, we are presenting a Hispanic Restaurant Week Resolution with the support of both parties and both chambers. This is a special occasion to celebrate the many contributions these restaurants —and the hardworking families who run them— bring to our communities.” said Rep. Caraveo.

“Latinos are the backbone of the restaurant industry in this country,” said Rep. Barragán. “And in the past decade, Hispanic entrepreneurs have pursued their American Dream and opened small businesses, including restaurants, at a higher rate than any other demographic.  I’m proud to dedicate this week to all of our chefs, dishwashers, servers, and owners who contribute to our economy, support their families, and bring us closer to our culture with their culinary pursuits."

“In southern Arizona, and across the United States, countless Hispanics have opened a restaurant in search of their American Dream,” said Rep. Ciscomani. “These establishments allow them to share their rich culinary traditions and bold flavors, all while creating jobs and strengthening the economy. As a Hispanic myself, I am proud to support this resolution to dedicate this week to Hispanic restaurants and thank all the owners, chefs, servers, dishwashers and more for their work and contributions to our community.”

“Through their rich culinary traditions and hard work, Hispanic restaurant workers and owners contribute significantly to our communities and economy. Hispanic Restaurant Week celebrates the profound influence of Colorado and the nation’s Hispanic community on our national palette, and I’m grateful to stand with Rep. Yadira Caraveo to honor them with this resolution,” said Senator Bennet.

“Growing up in a Cuban household and living in Texas means I can confidently say that there is nothing better than Latino food. From my abuela’s empanadas and picadillo to ropa vieja to beef enchiladas and pork tamales to queso flameado con chorizo to flan or tres leches cake, there’s nothing like Hispanic cuisine,” said Senator Cruz. “And in every part of Texas—from the Rio Grande Valley to deep East Texas—there is one thing that’s present in every neighborhood, the local Hispanic restaurant. No one values Latino cuisine more than Texans, which is why I’m proud to support the Hispanic Restaurant Week Resolution to ensure that the men and women who work tirelessly to bring us the best food get the recognition they deserve.”

The resolution is led by Congresswoman Yadira Caraveo M.D. (D-CO-08), Chair of the Hispanic Caucus, Nanette Barragan, (D-CA-44), Congresswoman Maria Salazar (R-FL-27) and Congressman Juan Ciscomani (R-AZ-06). The bipartisan resolution carries a Senate companion led by Senator Michael Bennet (D-CO) and Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX).

This resolution is endorsed by the Hispanic Restaurant Association
